Most private-sector employees are covered by OSHA in all states. However, some states have their own health and safety programs that expand those regulations. Workers who are self-employed and immediate family members of farmworkers are not covered by OSHA. How do I get an OSHA card? Every participant who completes an OSHA Outreach Training Program gets a completion card that is authorized by it. This includes OSHA 10 and 30-hour classes for Maritime, General Industry and Construction or 15-hour courses for workers who work in disaster sites. Students must complete the entire course to be eligible for the card. Please note that an OSHA completion card is not a license or certificate. Who should take the 10 and 30 hour courses? Entry level workers who need to learn about onsite safety related to their jobs should take the 10 hour class. The 30 hour class is more extensive and suitable for site supervisors, managers and employees who are responsible for certain safety aspects. How are employees informed of regulations? Besides the required OSHA training, employees must also post the OSHA 2203 workplace poster which outlines basic workplace safety regulations. The poster should be displayed prominently and it should also be placed in areas where violations can occur. Can I select my trainer? Trainers who conduct OSHA Outreach sessions are not OSHA personnel but they are certified through the program.  They work independently and their schedules may differ as well. The best way to find a suitable trainer is to compare several before finalizing one who meets student requirements. This includes determining if they can accommodate students with learning disabilities. Each trainer should have a trainer card which includes an expiration date along with the name of the authorization body. How do I replace a lost HAZWOPER card? OSHA does not keep a record of everyone who completes HAZWOPER training but you can still get a replacement card. You can get it from your employer who should have the copy you handed in or from the training instructor/organization where you trained.
